"What can I do when it feels like the whole universe is out to get me?"

"First, I would decide if it is a worthy opponent. If not, I prefer to laugh."

Blurb: "Conan the Barbarian versus my mundane problems!" Conan accompanies Kahn throughout their life, dispensing life advice and giving new perspectives on modern life.

Why is it worth your time?: It's a nice little comic about a cartoonist and their barbarian friend, a nice slice of WHY people enjoy the company of their favorite fictional barbarians. Plus, it's up for free online! Give it a shot!

Misc Notes: For funsies, compare and contrast with Andy of Astraea's web page about how Robert E. Howard claimed that Conan seemed to write himself!

"I suggest you spin off a few more selves with slightly shited neurotypes and discuss the matter."

Blurb: After spending centuries dead, Markus awakens in a world that doesn't care to explain much, least of all itself. And he can spin off other selves to discuss the matter...

Why is it worth your time?: Trippy and thoughtful, a meditation on history and the self. Give it a shot; it's free to read online!

"Desynchronization Potential is the degree to which humans can safely dissociate their minds from their bodies in order to become more efficient components of an algal computer. [...] In the process of UI diving together, the borders of the individual minds soften and become porous, effectively allowing us to become each other. At my desync, I become them more completely than they become me."

Blurb: Jarek Ɓaniewski has an amazing desync potential and a real bad attitude. After a strange dive in an Algal computer leads to him getting his face pounded in by a coworker and then getting fired, he sets out to do a deep dive by himself... and gets more than he bargained for.

Why is it worth your time?: It's short, it's free, and Jon Cairns packs a lot of details to make his sci-fi world convincing despite the limited page count. It's also an interesting idea of a profession that involves group hiveminding to interact with a biological computer made of algae!

Plural Tags: identityblending, setting-specific, abuse not mentioned, realitymashing, teamwork, plural on purpose, visions

Content Warnings: Lots of nudity, some sex (though this is NOT a porn comic). Others contain spoilers; see comments

Access Notes: Not transcribed; available as an ebook or read on the web here. (Back-up link here.) Short portions of this comic are in Polish.

Misc Notes: The Untitled SF series have standalone chapters, so you don't need to read any of the others to follow this one.

“You see that boy? You see that girl? You see that longing glance
Don’t you get all chickenshit, go ask them for a dance
You see the way they look at you that gaze all scorch and smoulder
Let me be your wingman, I’m the devil on your shoulder”

Blurb: "Devil on Your Shoulder is a song about making friends with one of your nightmares to ward off the others. What could possibly go wrong?" (from SKOIM's website)

Why is it worth your time?: It's a fun three and a half minutes of a girl making friendly with the devil on her shoulder, who encourages her to live a little and pursue the boy and/or girl of her dreams. The song quality is rough, but the Devil's infectious enthusiasm carries it; it's worth a  few minutes of your time.

Plural Tags: metaphysical/spiritual

Content Warnings: I don't think it's a huge spoiler to tell you that a song about the Devil will involve discussions of death, the afterlife, and Hell.

Accessibility Notes: Lyrics can be read here. Available for free listening on Youtube; you can also pay-what-you-want for an MP3 on bandcamp.com

“We know how to swim in the sea of whiteness.
We don't really want to.

We don't know how to climb.
How to reach a place of connection with blackness.
We haven't figured out if we want to.”

Blurb: A kinetic essay, a venting of complicated feelings about race springing from being both black and white.

Why is it worth your time? Packbat's essay is short, free, and a thoughtful discussion of a challenging topic. Some plurals are making really experimental work, both in genre and medium, and that has value, even if by nature it's hard to fit into the "rules" of how this comm is supposed to work. It may not have a "story," by traditional means, but I want to boost it.
